Lode Runner (NES) | review

Lode Runner NES

Lode Runner is an arcade video game with platform elements initially developed by Brodebund in 1983, the Remake arrives on Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984 from Hudson Soft and distributed by Broderbund. Originally the game published in 1983 consists of 150 levels unlike the NES version that has only 50 levels.

The game at the time was a novelty, being a pioneer in having a level editor, making the game enormously popular at the time, the game in its concept makes a lot of use of logic and although it looks like a game simple actually quite complex.

The history of lodes Runner NES

In this game we are a Galactic Commando deep into enemy territory. The mighty leaders of the Bungeling Empire have stolen a fortune in gold from the people by excessively taxing fast food.

Our objective is to infiltrate each of the 50 treasure rooms; we must evade the deadly Bungeling guards and recover each stack of loot.

To complete a level we must collect all the gold in the level, when we achieve it we must climb the ladder to access the next level. We will use our laser drill pistol for dig pits and passageways through brick floors.

If a Bungeling guard falls into a pit and get stuck , it will become safe , for a moment, at this moment we can pass over it, each hole we dig will be filled within a few seconds, if a guard falls into the hole he can get out but if the hole is filled before the guard will lose his life and a new one will appear guard. If we fall into a hole we will automatically lose our lives, we cannot get out of the hole.

We can jump from any height; we can jump from a hand - bar or ladder or through a hole in the floor. In some cases we must calculate the way we make the holes. We can only dig holes in a fissured brick.

Designing our own game board

The process to design our own board is simple, we place gold, bricks or stairs anywhere you want, the only limitation is that the level will have the size of the screen, so it doesn´t scroll.
