The version of the classic board game Monopoly adapted for the Nintendo Entertainment System version was produced by Arcadia Systems, and developed by Sculptured Software and distributed by Parker Brothers. The NES version was released in 1991.
The game retains all the rules of the board game. Today I present a review of the version of Monopoly for the Nintendo Entertainment System. At the beginning the first thing we must select the number of players that will participate in the game, in the case of the NES the maximum number of players will be eight of which the maximum number of human players is two. We will select how many players there are, now we must determine if the player is human or computer.
How to Play Monopoly NES
If we are human players we choose our name, and we will select among the eight computer players in two groups: Top four, Carmen, Isaac, Penelope and Ollie; botton four: Arthur, Gertrude, Ermin, Maude. The order in which we will play will be determined randomly by the computer. Then we will select the token with which we will identify ourselves on the board, there are a total of 8 tokens to choose from: Hat, Horse, Iron, Thimble, Dog, Wheelbarrow, Car and Shoe . We press "A" to play without time limits, or "B" to play a short game.
At the beginning we all have as capital $1500 as cash, with this money we can buy properties, we throw the dice randomly we will get a number that will be the sum of the numbers of the dice. We will advance the amount of spaces indicated by the dice. When we fall in a square where the property is available we can buy it or give it at auction.
In case we land on a property that already has an owner, we will have to pay the amount of the rent according to the property. Special properties such as the train, electricity and water service, will be paid according to their rules. Other squares where we can land are the "Community Chest" and the "Chance", in both squares we will take a card that gives us a prize or imposes a punishment.
The Jail and how exit it
There are several ways to enter the jail, a card of community chest or chance sends us to jail, that when we roll the dice we get three consecutive doubles, that we fall in the jail box. To get out of jail we can use a card, roll the dice and get a double, or pay the bail.
The game menu is easy and intuitive: the value of our assets, the amount of cash we have, Finished we leave the menu. Properties here we can trade, mortgage or un-mortgage aur properties; buildings we can buy or sell houses and hotels. Status show us our Portfolio, assets, deeds, board and sequence. Game control show us the timer, hurry if we want the game faster or slower, computer gives our control to the computer, end game finish the game.
Within the board every time we go through "Go" we will receive $200 in bonus. There are also two boxes in the board where we must pay taxes, these are "income tax" here we pay $200 or 10% of our balance, the other box is "luxury tax" here we pay $75.
Building Houses and Hotels
When we have enough properties we can exchange properties with another player for it from the menu we go to the properties option and from there to trade, we can negotiate properties and offer cash in exchange for a property. I personally recommend to make a good offer especially if it is a highly valued property, the idea is that we do not reject the offer.
To build houses you must have all the properties of the same color, if you don't have all of them you must negotiate with another player the property you need. The houses are built in a uniform way, that is to say, you must have houses in all the properties, you will build in this way until you have four houses in each property now you are ready to build hotels. We have a time limit of five seconds for a player to claim houses. A strategy that many players use is not to build hotels, as this will prevent other players from building houses, remember that there is a limited number of houses.
To build hotels it is necessary to have in all properties four houses in all properties of the same color, as I said before a good strategy is not to build hotels as this gives the opportunity to other players to build houses. By building hotels you leave four houses available.
At any time we can mortgage our properties either to pay some rent or to invest it by buying some property. When we want to recover our property we can un-mortgage it. During the time that the property is mortgaged we will not collect rent.
Bankrupt in Monopoly NES
The game ends the moment you cannot pay the rents or the taxes in these case you are considered bankrupt. If you are in a property and you cannot pay the rent even if you are mortgaged then you are bankrupt, all your properties will pass to the player of the property you are in, this player will have to pay the mortgage costs before he can enjoy the properties. If you are in a tax bracket and cannot pay then you are in bankruptcy with the bank, all your properties go to the bank and the bank puts them up for sale again.
The game ends when only one player is left with the entire monopoly.
